On eBay: 1923 Ford Track Roadster
This 1923 Ford could be an interesting restoration, preservation, or collector’s piece. According to the seller, the car raced in Oklahoma City in the 1940’s and 1950’s. The vintage photos are from that era and reveal a little about the evolution of the car from a hardtop to a roadster. The asking price is $3,600 — and I think we have all seen a lot less go for a lot more. From the seller:
“Several people have emailed asking for more documentation on the history of this car. Several things are known and other things remain a mystery about this car. 1. this car has alot of racing history. The scrapes and dings, paint jobs, and overall apprearance of the car. Some cars that survive we never raced or only raced once or twice. This is not one of those cars. 2. The car raced in the Oklahoma City area with a full roll cage and a hardtop roof on it. The picture in front of the the billboards was taken at Taft Stadium in the early 1950’s. 3. I removed the roll cage from the car to return it to an earlier configuration. The other black and white picture is stamped on the back October 1950 and was developed at an Oklahoma City photo lab. I believe that this was taken at Ohara speedway in Oklahoma City. I also believe that it is the same car as the one I am selling with 98% degree certainty. It is running a 20’s era Chrysler axle. Otherwise it is very similar setup car. Some sprint cars in the 30’s used the Chrysler tubular axles. It would not be unusual to upgrade to a 32 heavy Ford axle in the 50’s. 4. That is all I know but I’m sure that someone in the OKC area may have more photos or know something about it.”
