Confessions of a Car Salesman
This is pretty much off-topic, but it’s a fascinating read, especially for those who have never worked in sales, much less dealership sales. Edmunds.com sent journalist Chandler Phillips undercover to work at car dealerships in the Los Angeles area. Phillips worked at two dealerships for a period of time. The first dealership was a high-volume, high-pressure shop that sold Japanese cars. The second dealership was a “no haggle” shop that sold domestic cars. It’s a nine part article that starts with Phillips walking into the first dealership and asking for a job application. After which, Phillips leads you through the life of a car salesperson, from “motivational” sales meetings to determining how salespeople divvy up customers.
