Chevy Reissuing the 427 ZL-1 Engine
Chevrolet will be reissuing a special edition 427 ZL-1 crate engine based on the optional 430-hp engine available in the 1969 Corvette and Camaro. Only two Corvettes and 69 Camaros were ordered with this engine, making original cars equipped with the ZL-1 some of the rarest and most collectible Chevy muscle cars of the era.
The Anniversary 427 isn’t a completely faithful reproduction. The original tooling has been updated to allow for a stronger cast iron block rather than using an aluminum block as found on the 1969 version. However, the motor is still rated at 430-hp and 450 lb.-ft. of torque.
GM Performance Parts will be producing only 427 of the ZL-1 and the motor goes on sale in the first quarter of 2008 through GM dealers and GM Performance Parts retailers. For more information visit www.gmperformanceparts.com.
