About 993
The Porsche 993 was first introduced in 1993, with the last 993 being produced in 1998. The 993 was yet another variant of the iconic Porsche 911, with its predecessor being the 964 and its successor the 996.
The 993 was available as a two door coup, a convertible and as a targa, in both a 3.6 litre and 3.8 litre engines. Transmissions available included the four speed automatic, five speed manual and six speed manual.
The base model of the 993 series was the Carrera, as with all 911 models. It came complete with the standard 3.6 litre engine, though was available in both front wheel and four wheel drive, the latter being an optional extra for customers.
Porsche offered a vast array of optional extras to customers, allowing them to customise their 993 for their own unique taste. Options on the car covered both the interior and exterior of the car, from a variety of alloy options to a wood panelled interior. Customers also had the choice of seat type i.e. racing, comfort or executive, as well as the option for an improved stereo system.
The cabriolet version of the Porsche 993 was first introduced in 1994. The hood was completely electric and adding that bit of excellence and class, was hand stitched.
The targa version of the car was introduced in 1996 and was completely unique is offering the driver a fully retractable electric glass roof. The unique model came complete with its own 17 inch alloys, ensuring it stood out from the rest of the 993 range. There were however problems with the concept of the car, the main being an excessive amount of heat build up within the car, no doubt as a result of the amount of glass.
A twin turbo charged 3.6 litre version of the 993 was introduced in 1995, delivering a massive 408 ps. The sportier Turbo stood out on the road with its larger 18 inch alloys, sports kit and wider wheel arches. It was designed to be fast and stylish and was a real head turner.
The Turbo S was introduced in 1997, which was a rare car, with only 183 sold across the globe. The engine saw an increased output to 450 bhp. Modifications to the exterior of the car included four exhausts, bonnet vents and a carbon fibre interior.
The GT2 was an upgraded Turbo, delivering an even more impressive performance. In 1996 the car had 465 bhp at 5,700 rpm. An Evo version of the car was also produced in limited numbers giving the driver up to 600 bhp, making it one of the fastest Porsches produced.
