The Porsche 928 was and remains one of the most elegant Porsches produced to date, with its long sloping bonnet and sunken headlights and a beautifully curved rear. Its coupe design is aerodynamic, a sleek look seen with Porsche's of that era. With production starting in 1978, with a life span of 17 years, it was intended that the 928 would replace the 911.

The Porsche 928 offered the consumer a car of beauty as well as combining everything great about a sports car with everything great about a luxury car to offer power and refinement in one great vehicle. Built with a front mounted V8 engine the car achieved iconic status in the US in 1983 by being the fastest car to be sold to consumers with the car reaching a top speed of 146 mph.

The European market saw an updated model with the 928S in 1979, sporting new spoilers and wider wheels. The key change to the model was a more enhanced engine, with 300PS from the 4.7 litre engine to give a little extra power to match the refined sporting look. The latest model also saw amendments made to the manual gearbox and the brakes of the car, providing key changes to upgrade the model.

Whilst the European market benefitted from the 928S it only entered the American market three years later. During this time customers were given a competition group option which ultimately gave customers a lookalike S model. Customers could order replica spoilers, 16 inch wheel and sports seats as well as being able to specify interior colours.

The Porsche 942 was created in 1984 as a special edition based on the 928, which featured a number of enhancements to the original model. The 942 saw a 10 inch longer wheel base, advanced headlights and 5 litre 32 valve engine to give it more power. 1986 saw a special edition of the Porsche 928 created. With the help of AMG a number of long wheel base models were created.

The 928 still remains a head turning Porsche, with a well looked after model setting you back over Ј15,000. With a number of owners clubs throughout the UK and the world, these cars are still in popular demand with some very enthusiastic owners.
