Plymouth Roadrunner NASCAR clone, for sale in Arlington, Texas, for $24,900.

If this classic has you flashing back to the 70's you obviously spent alot of your time at the track. This cool classic brings back that vintage look that you never see anymore. After ending up with a 1971 Roadrunner two satellite parts cars were purchased with the intent of restoring the 71. However, upon the parts cars arrival the current owner decided this was his chance to put together a vintage NASCAR clone like you've never seen. In 2000 with the aide of pictures and details Sputnik Motor Sports began putting it together. With all these detailed references they were able to put together a very accurate chassis and roll cage. The ten point cage is made utilizing 1-5/8" steel tubing that extends from the front of the frame rails all the war to the rear bumper. It wouldn't be a NASCAR clone if it had the same stock suspension so it was all completely reworked to handle the horsepower. All this work included adding heavy 1.1" torsion bars, heavy duty front/rear sway bars, moving the rear springs, using all polyurethane bushings, and dual heavy duty racing shocks over each wheel. The rear end on this thing is a 742 casting 8-3/4 unit and in true stock car style utilizes 12" Chrysler drum brakes all around. It rides on a set of 15x10" Bart Racing wheels with 275x12x15 Goodyear Eagle tires that were interestingly enough once ran a qualifying lap at the Texas Motor Speedway! If your trying to recall who ran with Orange and White you wont come up with anything. In fact, it was a conscious effort to avoid any colors that was used on circle track cars during this era. It makes the car much more of a tribute to the sport than to a specific driver.

Following the plan of the original racers the same body modifications were done to this car. The side marker lights were covered, door handles removed, mirrors removed, front wheel openings opened up, gas filler was fabricated, plus the headlights and tailights removed. If you think this thing just has the looks then guess again. Pop the hood on the car and you will see a legit 426 wedge block that runs great. To create a "NASCAR big block" the block is topped with a set of 452 heads which were ported, polished, and treated to a three angle valve job. That nice lope is provided by a .501 lift hydraulic Competition cam with 9:1 compression cylinders. By keeping the compression level a little lower the car can still be used for the occasional parade. Underneath the custom NASCAR style cowl induction air box tops the Holley intake with 850 cfm Holley double pumper. The Mopar Performance transistor ignition system utilizes dual cockpit mounted modules which was standard practice for stock car racers. An old school custom aluminum shroud covers the Griffin four core radiator with dual cooling fans. Since the car was intended to be driven off the track as well a TorqueFlite transmission was used with a manual valve body. This is one of the only places where the car strays from the originals however, a dummy clutch pedal is in place and the Hurst manual shifter has custom linkeage to power the transmission.

. if (fp_ns6) { document. getElementById("fpGalleryRightBtn_7530"). style. visibility="hidden" } The interior is finished out in matching orange with custom aluminum panelling that finishes it of very nicely. Black faced gauges line the dash with a polished tach on top. The racing steering column was all custom fabricated and is topped with the removable stock car steering wheel. Where the original rear quarter windows would be you will now find Lexan with retaining straps in place to reinforce the stock front and rear. The single seat utilizes a five point Simpson racing safety harness which along with the fire extinguisher are great added safety items. Another area where this nostalgia racer strays from the originals is that you won't find black foam and electrical tape wrapping the roll cage. For cosmetic reasons Orange foam was used and really looks nice.

This is an awesome car with an awesome story. This wasn't just thrown together but was thoroughly researched and planned out. This car would do great at any show and would make a wonderful addition to any collection or museum.
