Plymouth Sport Fury Convertible, for sale in Los Angeles, Washington, for $92,900.
You have to admit there is something compelling about squatty flared fenders and the concave, air-sucking grille of this '62 Sport Fury Convertible. Oh yeah, we know that the '62 Plymouth was not universally acclaimed as a high-water mark in automotive styling. However, as one rock and roll song of the '60s says, "She's ugly, but she sure can cook, " and this HEMI-powered resto-mod wasn't built to be some prissy, pretty thing but rather to wipe the smile off your face with its brute power – 572 inches worth! Meet "The Beast". .
Details:
Extraordinary build by Dan Wickett at Hot Rod Construction in Piedmont, SC. Dan has a long and respected reputation for building extraordinary, eye-catching, show-winners. Upon completion, this car was featured in the November 2006 issue of Super Rod magazine. Fitment of all body panels is laser straight. Beautifully finished in all black with a black convertible top. Notice the super clean engine bay has nothing but engine - battery is in trunk and a one-off custom built serpentine belt system turns the A/C and alternator, all wiring is hidden as well as the A/C compressor allowing the eye to focus on that big Orange HEMI! Handmade aluminum air cleaner hides the port fuel injection and keeps with the factory super stock look. Interior features black and red leather wrapped bucket seats in a timeless rolled and pleated design with leather covered black and red door panels and red loop carpet. Autometer gauges are contained in a modified instrument cluster. Vintage Air A/C, heat and defrost system, Kenwood Stereo. Floor shift is housed in a modified console for a stock look. Roll bar is removable with down tubes that run from rear wheel wells to front floor boards to help stiffen things up. 325 BF Goodrich drag radials fit nicely in the wheel wells and the "dog dish" hub caps and beauty rings complete the sinister look! Sits "right" on Superstock springs and sub-frame connectors stiffen the entire unibody structure. 9 inch ford rear end and four wheel disc brakes. This serious show car is a solid, reliable driver that is guaranteed turn heads in a whiplash manner wherever it is driven! Nearly $170K in receipts on the restoration.
