This is the only surviving photo of my father's 1949 Hudson Super Six. This car actually saved my dad's life (and made mine possible) when he took the ditch around the outside of a curve in order to avoid some cattle that had gotten out of their pasture and into the highway one dark, lonely night. Thanks to the Hudson's "Step-Down" design and low center of gravity, he was able to hold the curve through the ditch and get back onto the road with only the loss of one fender skirt. Had he been driving anything else, it's likely that he would have rolled the car and been killed, and neither he nor I would be here to retell the tale. Taken in Muskego, Wisconsin, about 1957.
