I wanted to get an idea how the valve height influenced the relief cut. Not only does the valve seat height determine the overall depth of the relief cut, it also has an influence on your chamber finished volume. The deeper, more material, you have to cut to accomplish your relief, the lower your static compression ratio will be. I consider it wise to plan your valve seat height in relation to the deck surface. This keeps your relief cut shallower to accomplish the same effect and allows the valve heads to sit higher relative to the deck and consume chamber cc's. Preserving your compression volume is very important in a flathead engine.
