Oldsmobile Cutlass, Blue, for sale in Charlotte, North Carolina, for $19,995.

GM's styling department was hitting on all eight cylinders in 1970, and this Oldsmobile Cutlass convertible is a great example of some of their finest work. With a powerful Rocket 350 under the hood, all original bodywork, and those cool 18-inch alloys, it's a unique take on a classic design.

Restored by a bodyshop owner for himself, you can be confident that the metal work was done right. According to the owner, all the body panels are factory-issue and thanks to his careful workmanship, they are incredibly straight and clean. The bright blue paint is popular on Oldsmobiles of this vintage, and the white stripes have been laid down not only in the traditional fashion, but also to emphasize the bulging fender flares. And it's always nice to see an honest muscle car that hasn't been dressed up like its more valuable brothers, and instead prefers to stand on its own merits. But all the good stuff is still there, including the sweeping fender line, the integrated taillights, and the split front grille with quad headlights that make it arguably the best-looking of the GM A-bodies.

The white vinyl interior appears to be largely original, and given that it's more than 40 years old, it looks pretty good. With bucket seats and no console, this is a relatively unusual Olds, too, with an interesting confluence of options that make it stand out. All the traditional Olds design cues are there, from the burled walnut appliques on the dash and door panels, to the gauge faces with brushed stainless inserts. You'll also be happy to discover factory A/C, a power convertible top that looks brand new, and a set of auxiliary gauges under the center of the dash. Of course, the entertainment has been upgraded to a Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo head unit with new speakers in the kick panels.

Still wearing Oldsmobile Gold paint, the original Rocket 350 small block V8 still lives under the hood, augmented by a new Edelbrock carburetor and a Mallory ignition system. Recent maintenance includes new hoses throughout, and as an Oldsmobile, things like power steering and power brakes were standard equipment. A TH350 3-speed automatic is a faithful travelling companion, spinning a heavy duty 12-bolt rear end that will last virtually forever. Dual exhaust featuring trumpets from a 442 peeking out from under the rear bumper rumbles with that unique Oldsmobile sound. But perhaps this car's most distinctive feature are the big 18-inch alloy wheels, which have been borrowed from a late-model BMW and not only fit perfectly on the Olds, but look awesome wearing 245/50/18 Bridgestones. And take a closer look-someone actually managed to fit a set of Oldsmobile center caps to the BMW wheels for an awesome custom touch. There's even a matching 18-inch spare tire in the trunk.

Fun ragtops are getting more expensive every day as the top-flight muscle cars prices soar out of sight. Pick up this Olds and enjoy it without worries, because it'll always be in demand.
