About 300ZX
The Nissan 300ZX was a Japanese sports car produced from 1983 until 2000 and followed on from the success of the Nissan 280ZX.
The Z31 was introduced in 1983 until 1989 with over 300,000 produced. The two door coupe had a variety of engines on offer across the 2 litre, 3 litre and 3 litre turbo. A number of transmissions were also offered in the five speed manual and four speed automatic. The car was powered by the standard V6 engine, which was the country's first mass produced V6 engine. The 3 litre V6 gave 160 bhp, with the turbocharged model delivering an impressive 200 bhp.
The Z31 differed slightly depending on its destination country. The European models utilised a Nismo camshaft which gave the driver 241 bhp with a better use of turbo. The exterior of the car remained unchanged apart from the use of a lower front spoiler to keep the car stuck to the road in those tight turns.
The Z32 was introduced in 1989 and whilst very little changed in the look and feel of the car there was one significant alteration in the engine. A new 3 litre version was installed delivering 222 bhp as standard. Over 160,000 cars were produced during this period.
Nissan produced a turbo charged modification to the Z32 for the sports car lover, with a twin turbo charged 300 bhp version. This car was voted as one of the best cars in the world seven years on the run and gave the driver an impressive 0-62 of up to six seconds.
The 300ZX started its racing career in 1984 in stock racing, winning a number of races. The car then progressed into the IMSA GT Championships and from 1990 featured in Daytona, which it actually won.
The Nissan 300ZX has one a number of awards and accolades throughout its life. In 1990 it was named the "Import Car of the Year" by Motor Trend as well as "One of the Top Ten Performance Cars" by the same magazine. The car continued to appear on the "10 best" list, achieving this seven years in a row. In 2010 it was also listed as one of the most stylish cars over the last 50 years by GQ magazine, due to its long lines standing out from the competition.
