WWII leader's car sells big

Winston Churchill is the most famous British prime minister of all time thanks to his leadership of his country during the Second World War.
This month one of the various classic cars he owned during his lifetime was sold via an online auction, fetching an impressive price of over $611,000.
The 1939 Daimler DB18 Drophead Coupe was only five years old when Churchill purchased it and since then it has been passed on to various collectors in the US, the UK and, most recently, in Germany.
While its historical background is obviously interesting, this classic Daimler made such a lot of money at auction as a result of its rarity. It is believed to be one of a kind, since the seven other Drophead examples which the manufacturer originally produced have since been lost to the ravages of time.
This model underwent extensive restoration in order to bring it up to scratch and at the moment it is in much the same condition as it would have been when Churchill was onboard all those decades ago.
With such valuable and historic classic cars for sale, it is unsurprising that bidders are willing to go so high.
