The Simeone Foundation Museum, based in Philadelphia and which houses many classic cars from the history of motor racing, is nominated for a prize at this year's International Historic Motoring Awards, to be held in London, England this week.

Curator and former neurosurgeon, Fred Simeon, is responsible for the overseeing of the collection of classic cars and he will be heading to the UK to find out whether or not his establishment is recognised in this prestigious show.

Mr Simeon has already received praise from famous car lovers, including talk show supremo, Jay Leno and former racing champion, Mario Andretti.

Other major museums such as the Jaguar Heritage Collection in the UK and the Automuseum Prototyp in Germany are up for the same award and, according to Mr Simeon, his relatively small organisation is definitely the underdog in such high flying company.

In fact the 75 year old's museum has only been open to the public for the past three years, which makes the fact that it is gaining global recognition even more impressive.

Amongst Mr Simeon's collection are 10 classic cars which took part in LeMans, from a 1933 Alfa to a 1970 Porsche, which makes it a great place for keen racing fans.
