Chevrolet is getting ready to put an overhauled edition of its Silverado pickup into production next year and it has even revealed an image of a prototype vehicle being put through its paces.

The Chevrolet Silverado line has only been given its full, official name since 1999, although the moniker has actually been around since the mid 1970s.

The Chevrolet C/K range began life in 1960 and 15 years later it received a trim option known as the Silverado, which is where the association between the two began.

By the end of the last Millennium, Chevrolet was looking to compete with a revised brand in order to take on the Ford F-150 and Dodge Ram ranges, which is when the Silverado became a distinct entity.

It has been six years since the Silverado was last updated and Chevrolet is now apparently looking to put the new version into production at two factories in 2013.

There are classic C/K models with Silverado trim available, while the modern iteration remains Chevrolet's most popular vehicle. A quarter of a million have been sold so far in 2012 and as the new version's launch approaches, it seems that major discounts are being offered on the outgoing range.
