While it certainly nothing new to see a number of vintage automobiles (completely restored from the bottom up) cruise down the main street of almost any town in the United States, it’s not often that you see this kind of detail and attention paid to the vintage filling stations.
However, that’s exactly what’s going on in Gladstone at the 1940s era Flying A filling station. Not only will you find a trio of completely restored porcelain pumps – complete with porch swing – but you’ll also find a number of time period extras and amenities as well.
The entire restoration has taken almost 10 years to pull off, and is so much more than just your typical vintage filling station. In fact, it doubles as a motorcycle and ATV accessories shop as often as it has been used as the perfect backdrop for the vintage automobile photo shoots – which occur on a nearly daily basis.
With a complete restoration of both the exterior and interior – as well as most of the surrounding property – it’s almost as if you step through a time machine back to the 1940s. If you’re ever in the area (whether you are driving vintage autos or not), stop on by, grab a cold soda pop, and just hang out on the porch swing. All visitors are more than welcome.
