French manufacturer, Renault and sports car company, Alpine, enjoyed an illustrious history on the race track and the road beginning in the 1950s.
A wide variety of Renault Alpine models emerged as a result, with engines from the larger of the two companies and the designs offered up by the more specialised and small scale of the pairing.
Last month it emerged that the Renault Alpine brand would be resurrected and the manufacturer actually chose a number of former World Rally Championship drivers in order to spearhead the project.
The first car to be produced under the revived marque is apparently going to be developed in tandem with Caterham, while the prestigious rally masters who have been chosen to be on the advisory board should help to steer the project in the right direction.
The new Renault Alpine has been the subject of rumours for several years, although it finally looks like it is well on the way to becoming a reality. In the meantime, enthusiasts can familiarise themselves with the various Alpine models from the past, which quickly became assimilated into classic motoring and remain a benchmark of what French manufacturers should be able to achieve.
