The celebrations of the Porsche 911's 50th anniversary, to be held this year, vary in size and significance, although each is important to fans of this illustrious range of German sports cars.

Over in the UK, one of the biggest events is set to take place at the iconic Silverstone race track, where a parade filled with classic 911s, from Porsche Carrera models to convertibles and rare racers, is set to take place this July.

Organisers are planning to get a total of 911 Porsches involved in the parade, which is an entirely appropriate number, given the occasion and should make it an impressive sight to behold.

As well as the Porsche Carrera variants, you can expect to see the RS, GT, Tagra and Turbo all represented in this motley crew of classics.

Given that over three quarters of a million 911s have been made over the past five decades, it should not be too difficult to scrape together 911 examples for the parade.

The Silverstone track will also play host to the brand new 911 GT3 which is debuting at various motor shows around the world, ahead of its 2014 release. American fans will have to pay a little over $130,000 for this cutting edge model, although there are plenty of affordable classic examples.
