The Porsche 911 has been on the market since 1963 and so this year a number of celebrations to mark its half-century are being planned.
Over this five decade span, in excess of 820,000 examples of the 911 have been built, from the original which was intended to replace the 356, to the most recent Porsche 997 model, which was the flagship for the manufacturer until 2012.
In many, ways the 911 has always been more of a connoisseur's sports car as opposed to a cushy cruiser for pampered executives.
There will be a wide variety of events held globally to help see in the 911's 50th birthday and Porsche is even sending a classic 1967 model on a world tour, which will take in shows held at Pebble Beach, California and a number of other locations.
There is even a specific section of the Porsche website dedicated to allowing fans to follow the progress of this vehicle, as it takes on its mammoth road trip.
If you are passionate about the Porsche 997, or any other 911 generations, then you should have no trouble finding a way to mark its anniversary at local classic car shows.
