British automotive manufacturer, Jaguar, has always faced stiff competition from its European rivals, particularly at the more affordable end of the pricing spectrum.
The Jaguar X-Type, which first arrived in 2001, is a perfect example of its attempts to take on competing cars like the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4.
Now the Jaguar X-Type has retired, the company does not really have anything on offer to steal market share away from the Germans.
AutoCar reports that this could all change, as Jaguar is apparently working on a new compact executive sedan, to fill the gap left by the X-Type.
Of course for those who want to invest in classic cars, the X-Type might still be a sensible buy. It may be based on Ford underpinnings, but it is still a powerful and luxurious auto that should become even more desirable over the years, if you are willing to take the time to look after it.
Earlier Jaguars, such as the E-Type or the XJ, are also sensible choices and still look great on American roads, because they are styled in a manner that sets them apart from domestic cars. Fans can only hope that the new entry level Jag is as good as those before it.
