The Road & Track Trophy is to be awarded to a classic car and its owner during the Celebration of Automobiles event which is being held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway next month, according to WhoWon.

It is expected that in excess of 200 classic cars will be in competition to take home the prize, with judges from Road & Track magazine considering the rare vehicles across a range of categories in order to determine a winner.

Spokesperson for the event, Matt DeLorenzo, said that it is likely to attract some of the most dedicated auto enthusiasts in the country. This is despite the fact that it is only in its second year and still has some way to go to build its reputation to match established annual events.

Cars must have been built between 1911 and 1961 in order to take part in the event, with the judges expect to pick from a group of vehicles that contains many previous prize winners. This is likely to make the decision a really tough one.

The event is being held on May 12 between 10am and 4pm and will coincide with the launch of this year's Indy 500.
