Classic car owners generally have to take special care to protect their vehicles against the approaches of criminals.

There are two reasons for this, the first of which is obviously based on the fact that vintage vehicles may be inherently valuable and so it is worth giving them the best chance to rebuff theft attempts.

The second is that many classic cars will not have the same anti-theft technologies which are available on modern vehicles, making them appealing targets.

British car insurance firm, Admiral, this month revealed a number of interesting stats based on hundreds of thousands of claims and it was reported that the Nissan Figaro is the most likely to have items stolen from it.

The Nissan Figaro first arrived in 1989 and was at the time intended to hark back to the Datsun Fairlady vehicles produced during the 1960s, hence its retro design.

Like the classics to which it was paying tribute, it too became a respected collector's item over time and its relative rarity means that it is quite desirable in itself.

However, thieves are clearly aware that the Figaro also lacks modern security features and is thus easy to exploit for the theft of precious items stored within. This should serve as a lesson for classic car fans to avoid complacency.
