A pair of intrepid Brits are setting out on a serious road trip in February, as they attempt to drive from Cape Town in South Africa all the way back to London, in just 10 days.

To achieve this, they will need to cover 10,000 miles, or about 1,000 miles every single day, putting them well ahead of the current 14 days, 19 hours record.

Their average speed must be 42mph throughout and the modified Fiat 500 which they have chosen for the journey has been enhanced with extra fuel capacity, to help give it a range of 600 miles.

Various people have attempted the journey in the past, including the original 1933 expedition and the 1939 jaunt, which was the first to actually be completed.

In 1951, the record was cut to just 22 days by drivers of a Hillman Minx, before a Ford Cortina was used to break it by a few minutes in 1963.

The most recent record for the journey was set in 1983, although the Hillman Minx was given the cold shoulder in favour of a more sensible Range Rover.

The latest journey starts on the 1st of February and is raising money for charity, as well as attempting to set an endurance record.
