A Chevrolet Corvette built in 1959 has gone home with a top award at the Emirates Classic Car Festival this month.
Local owners of the vintage sports vehicle were actually presented with the award on behalf of the manufacturer that built it because Chevrolet is celebrating its centenary and, as such, sponsored the prize in order to remind an international audience of the classic cars it has created over the years.
GM spokesperson, Fadi Ghosn, said that the Chevrolet brand had been applied to some of the world's greatest automotive successes, from both an aesthetic and performance point of view.
The festival, which took over part of downtown Dubai at the start of December, had many American vehicles on show, as well as many from Europe and elsewhere around the globe.
Thousands of people came to see the classic cars, with both enthusiast owners and curious locals trekking to see the gleaming vehicles on display.
Chevrolet was involved in the organisation and the sponsorship of the event as a whole and there were a whole host of models which could have potentially taken the prize, but the elegant looks and hard-earned heritage of the 1959 Corvette allowed it to go home victorious.
