Citroen 2CV rumoured for revival

The Citroen 2CV is one of the best known classic cars to emerge from a French manufacturer and its original run of production lasted from 1948 until 1990.
As well as being an icon of auto design, it was known for its affordability, which perhaps explains its long lasting popularity.
However, new rumours suggest that Citroen is getting ready to revive the 2CV brand, according to a report from La Tribune in its native France.
The car remains under wraps, but it is thought that it will enter production at the end of next year, ahead of a 2014 release.
A number of classic cars that were originally intended for the cheapest end of the market have since been revived in a more costly form. The Austin Mini and VW Beetle are perhaps the best example of this treatment, which is why the news that the new 2CV is not going to be a budget option will not come as a surprise to most.
The 2CV will apparently be based on the same platform as Citroen's C3, although it will be a little more affordable than this particular vehicle when it hits the road soon.
