A classic Porsche 911 is being sold next week and unlike many other examples, it actually has a bit of incidental history behind it, which might attract the bidders.
This particular model was built in 1979 and so has the looks and heritage to make it a classic in its own right, but it is the fact that its original owner was none other than Microsoft founder, Bill Gates, that makes it a special vehicle.
Gates started his software company in 1975 and would eventually become one of the world's richest men. However, he was already doing rather well just four years after his firm got off the ground, which is why he picked up the Porsche 911 and registered it in Seattle.
He held onto the car for over a decade, but sold it during the 1990s. The current owner has restored the car and overhauled its engine, so that it delivers much more than the 300 horsepower that was available with the stock 3.3 litre engine.
When the car is sold on the 6th of June, it is expected to make upwards of $71,000, based on early estimates, although it could be higher, if the right bidders are present.
