Classic cars are generally seen as quite a good investment, particularly if they have the right credentials and heritage to see their values appreciate over time.

However, you will need quite a significant bank balance if you want to invest in a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, since an example being sold by an anonymous source based in the US, is going on sale for $41 million.

Yahoo Autos reports that this example is one of only 39 250 GTOs of this age and calibre to be in existence.

Earlier this year, a 1962 250 GTO was sold for $35 million, but if this example fetches the requested amount, it would become the world's most expensive car.

By comparison, you could get a Ferrari 355 for as little as $50,000 dollars. Or if you have $41 million to spare, you could buy 820 Ferrari 355 examples and have a whole fleet, which would be almost 10 per cent of all the versions of this model produced.

Of course the 250 GTO is a rare and highly prized car, although whether or not you believe it is actually worth $41 million, let alone able to hold onto this value, is another matter.
