Tom Petty may have sold 60 million albums in his long career, but last month he sold something quite different: a classic Jaguar XJS.
The car was put up for auction as part of a drive to raise money for the Doctors Without Borders charity, which aims to provide medical assistance to those living in some of the world's most dangerous areas.
Petty's Jaguar XJS was a convertible example built in 1996, which was also the last year in which this particular model was produced before being replaced.
While it may only be 16 years old, most consider it to be a modern classic, thanks to its elegant design and star power.
Petty spoke out about his love of the XJS ahead of its auction, stating that it was a favourite of his wife and also one of his most beloved vehicles, which made parting with it bitter sweet.
The car was auctioned online via eBay and the winning bidder paid just over $40,000 for this classic XJS. It had only covered 39,000 miles since new and will, hopefully, find a happy home with an owner who is able to look after it and preserve its legacy.
