Many people choose to buy classic cars that may be a little worse for wear and then restore them to their former glory, or even customise them to make them unique.

However, few people can hope to achieve what Californian firm, Icon, has with its range of unique, boutique projects, which aim to take the concept of a classic and turn it into something modern and fresh.

Fox News reports that Icon's latest work will involve taking a 1965 Dodge D200 pickup and turning it into something that is far more suitable for today's market.

This means that it will be based on the Dodge 3500 platform and will feature a number of impressive components, including a 5.9 litre diesel engine from Cummins, which has been specially customised just for this project.

At first, Icon will produce just one of these models, but after its public unveiling at a conference in Las Vegas later this month, it might take commissions for a few more.

In the past, Icon has worked on a number of unique vehicles based on classics, many of which fetch top prices.

For example, it re-imagined and built a car based on the 1971 Ford Bronco, which ended up selling for around $200,000.
