The Mustang brand is one of Ford's most iconic. After having begun life in 1964, it has continued to represent a uniquely American approach to performance motoring.
However, Ford is breaking a habit of a lifetime and offering the 2014 Mustang through its official retail channels in Europe, for the first time ever.
In the past, people have had to acquire classic Ford Mustang models via the import market, which is often a major obstacle for many because it involves a lot of paperwork and expense.
This has meant that Mustangs have remained a rare site in Europe, although this will all change as a result of Ford's latest plans.
There are some who fear that the 50th anniversary Mustang, which will also be the first to go on sale in Europe, might represent a turn for the worst for this iconic American brand. Concerns that it will be watered down or somehow less associated with its US roots, as a result of a move to the Old World, have been voiced online, in print and via the broadcast media.
However, from the point of view of European enthusiasts, it will be a delight to be able to get hold of a slice of American muscle.
