It looks like German auto maker, Audi, is going to make good on its promise to create a new iteration of the classic Quattro coupe, with the revised version of a 2010 prototype set to go into production by 2015.

The original Quattro was launched in 1980, taking its name from the four wheel drive system which made it a desirable road car and a championship-winning rally vehicle.

Audi kept the Quattro in production until 1991, at which point it was discontinued. However, the Quattro name has still been applied to a number of Audi's four wheel drive models over the years, with the legend of the classic still burning strongly.

Now the new Quattro will be arriving on the 35th anniversary of its predecessor, with German car magazine, Autobild, reporting that its Q35 codename is a deliberate nod to this fact.

The new Quattro will apparently have a 2.5 litre engine with a turbocharger attached, giving it 402 horsepower and a reported 0-60mph time of under four seconds. It will hit 155 miles per hour flat out, although this is only because Audi will be fitting it with a limiter, so its true top speed remains a mystery.
