Tom Cruise is set to reaffirm his status as one of the planet's leading action stars, with Jack Reacher, a film based on a series of popular books by British author, Lee Child.

The trailer for Jack Reacher emerged earlier this month and gives a brief look at what audiences can expect when it is released this December.

Prominently featured in the trailer is a Chevrolet Chevelle SS, behind the wheel of which is Cruise himself, taking up the titular role as the ex-military policeman turned transient detective.

Cruise can be seen gunning the throaty engine of the Chevvy Chevelle SS, before roaring off down the rain slick tarmac of an empty urban street.

The Chevvy seems to have taken some serious damage, so it is sensible to assume that Cruise's character will be treating it with a little less respect than an enthusiast might, although this is probably down to necessity rather than callousness.

Fans of the books have been critical of Tom Cruise's casting as Jack Reacher, because on the page, he is portrayed as a 6'5" giant, who weighs upwards of 220lbs, most of which is muscle. Hopefully, this movie will make the size difference seem irrelevant.
