The Dodge Dart may have been a muscle car later in the 1960s, but in 1964 the pitch was distinctly as a family car. In this TV ad below, it's rather punchily - and cheesily - marketed as "the new kind of compact in the large economy size".
At this point in its history the Dodge Dart was in its second year as a compact, down from a full-size car in 1961 and 1962.
The ad, indeed the marketing for 1964 must have pleased Dodge, as sales rose from 34,227 to 49,830.
Although not a muscle car yet, the Dodge Dart did indeed muscle up this year, the top engine option for the model was a 273 V8 providing 235 bhp, up from 1963's 273 V8 and its 180 bhp.
Sit back, and enjoy this short TV ad from days gone by.
