Classic cars can fetch all sorts of prices, but this month the world's second most valuable vintage vehicle has been sold for the stratospheric sum of $32 million, to an anonymous buyer in the UK.
The Ferrari 250 GTO, which attained this figure at auction, was one of just 39 cars originally produced in the mid-1960s. At the time ownership was exclusive because Enzo Ferrari himself was in charge of choosing who could purchase each vehicle.
That ownership has become even more niche, with the original $18,000 price tag being bumped up by quite a significant margin.
Selling for $32 million makes the 250 GTO the world's second most expensive vehicle, as a Bugatti Type 57SC from 1936 sold for up to an estimated $40 million two years ago.
Last week it was announced that a 250 GT from 1959 had been sold in Paris for around $6 million, but the rarer 250 GTO made more than five times that amount, cementing it in the history books.
Although the owner has chosen to remain anonymous, it is unlikely that the investment will remain off the map for too long, as a lot of interest follows this vehicle.
