Volvo is a company known for the safety and reliability of its vehicles and although it is still seen as a bit of a fuddy duddy brand, it has done much to improve its street cred over the past decade.
But back in the 1960s, it produced one of its boldest and most iconic models: the Volvo P1800. Sporty, sleek and definitely not boring, the P1800 remains popular to this day.
One very special Volvo P1800 is also the holder of the current world record for miles covered, with almost three million on the clock at the time of writing.
Owned by Irv Gordon of Long Island, NY, who purchased the car new in 1966, it has been on the road ever since and has clocked up enough miles to circle the globe well over a thousand times.
As with all classic cars, Mr Gordon needs to regularly maintain it and replace parts to keep it going, but the P1800 stands as a testament to the quality of the original design.
Mr Gordon believes he will pass the three million mile mark in 2013 and there is no reason to doubt the likelihood of this achievement.
