Cars from the Cord Automobile Company were already highly prized collectible cars, but with release of the film 'The Great Gatsby' later this year, marques such as this will perhaps see a rise in profile, and in price.

One such car is on offer now from the Gooding & Co auction house, thought it's for sale, not auction. It's a 1937 Cord 812 S/C Phaeton, and is one of the only 196 examples of the model with the supercharger option. As good as they look on a design basis, the chromed exhaust pipes on either side of the front of the 812 S/C give it a solid performance boost, taking the horsepower of the vehicle to 170.

This particular car obtained a 99.5-point result during CCCA Grand Classic judging in 2004. The car is ivory in color, with red upholstery, and a black soft top.

Cord was a progressive company mechanically, and the 810 and 812 models had some innovative features - front-wheel drive, hidden headlights, rear-hinged hood, concealed fuel filler door, and variable-speed windshield wipers. All of that, plus the distinction of being thought by many as being the most beautiful of all American cars.
