An Aston Martin DB5 which was previously owned by a rock star has sold for more than half a million dollars in London, England, far exceeding the expected price it was predicted to fetch at auction.

The DB5 was ordered by Beatle George Harrison in 1964 and was expected to sell for about $235,000 less than it eventually made.

According to the company which auctioned the vehicle, there were just 22,000 miles on the clock and its condition seemed to be virtually pristine, which means the new owner has certainly made an investment which will be more than just something to examine by eye.

A spokesperson said that telephone bids were being put in by an international audience, with some callers putting their cash on the line from the US and further afield.

An anonymous native of Houston, Texas placed the winning bid and it was explained that the money will be donated to charity, so it is good news for all involved.

Just over a thousand units of the Aston Martin DB5 were ever made during the mid 1960s and so it is rare in its own right, but its association with one of the world's most popular bands has helped this particular example bring in the big bucks.
