1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL – 4 speed manual transmission. This auto was originally owned by Elwyn Spiegel of Chicago, Illinois at which time it was sold to a CEO of an auto company, then to Arnold Palmer Motors of Latrobe, PA, then to Brian Bishop of Norman Oklahoma until July 2006 when the car was sold to me. The car’s Serial Number is 11304410014672, built December 1969. The color is DB180 Silver Grey Metallic - Glasurit with red leather. The car was originally a US car but during the restoration it was converted to a European car with euro headlamps, metric gauges, elimination of bumper overiders and body side lights. It’s equipped with the following original options: single seats 401, , 416 hardtop mounted, 422 MB power steering, 434 front seat safety belts, outside rearview mirror on the left and right , 515 Becker radio set , 524 Paintcoat preservative, 744 folding top fabric (original blue now black). In my 7 years of my ownership, the vehicle underwent a thorough restoration by Bruce Kelly, renowned Midwest Mercedes W113 expert, at Lake Country Classics in Minneapolis, MN. He was instrumental in making this SL capable of standing out among other Pagoda SL's. Included in the restoration, the car was bead blasted down to bare metal and painted with Glasurit paint DB180 Silver Grey Metallic, new leather seats, every major system has been replaced or rebuilt including fuel injection pump, engine top end rebuilt, all suspension bushings, shock absorbers, brakes, clutch, wheel bearings and seals, fuel pump, every maintenance and service need was addressed. It also has a 1-2-3 electronic ignition system and it’s fitted with a Nardi steering wheel. Stock steering wheel will come with the car. The car is rated a condition 1- (Very good restored car with some annual street use, 95+ point car). Car is in excellent condition and numerous first place winner of local Concours events. The car was also featured in a photo shoot for Brook Brothers suits. I am an active member in the Twin Cities Section of the Mercedes-Benz Club of America; I am also a former Section President. Over the past years I have driven this car in a number of MBCA events and shown it at local car shows, it’s always a pleasure to drive and is received well by spectators and show attendees alike.
