About C-Class

Top

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class was first introduced in 1993 and is still being produced today. Seen as a replacement for the Mercedes 190, the C-Class is an executive car competing with the BMW 3-Series and Jaguar XF.

The C-Class has seen three versions to date, with the original in 1993, the second in 2000 and the current version in 2007. Whilst the car itself is essentially the same, the designs have become more and more modern.

The first version was a rather box shaped vehicle and came in a four door saloon and five door estate models. There were a multitude of engines available to customers across both petrol and diesel. The diesel engines ranged up to 2.5 litre and offered favourable fuel efficiency with a maximum 148 bhp.

For the sportier customers a 3.6 litre Mercedes-Benz C-Class AMG model was also made available. For those looking for something even faster a 5.4 litre V8 was made available with the AMG sports kit, ensuring it stood out from the crowd.

The transmissions available in the first series were the five speed manual and four and five speed automatic.

The second generation C-Class was made available in a two door coupe as well as the standard four door saloon and five door estate. The coupe model offered something new to the compact executive market and would compete with the 3-Series coupe.

A new set of transmissions were also offered with the six speed manual, five speed automatic and seven speed automatic. There were also changes to the engines on offer with a new 3 litre diesel offered. A new 3.2 litre supercharged V6 engine was also offered in the AMG range.

The current version of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class was introduced in 2007, with its design mirroring the new S-Class. A variety of engines were also offered, with a 3.5 litre diesel engine now available, giving 230 bhp. The current C-Class also saw the introduction of the 6.3 litre petrol engine for use in the C63 AMG. The same transmissions were made available as featured in the second series of the car.

The latest offering of the C-Class also saw the introduction of the Blue Efficiency range in both petrol and diesel engines. This eco friendly range of engines reduced emissions and improved fuel economy to save the driver the maximum amount of money on the road.

In 2008 Mercedes introduced the C63 AMG, a performance modified version of the C-Class designed to compete with the Audi RS and BMW M-Series cars. The 6.3 litre V8 engine actually produced more horsepower than its rivals. This monstrous engine gave it an impressive 0-62 mph time of just 3.9 seconds, making it the fastest four door saloon in the world.
