About Fulvia
The Lancia Fulvia was first introduced in 1963, with a four door saloon and two door coupe versions available. The compact designed Italian car was produced until 1976, with a variety of engines available for customers.
The Lancia Fulvia was made famous as a result of its International Rally Championships title in 1972. The racing pedigree has continued throughout the years with the more modern Lancia's an ever present feature on the WRC tour.
The front wheel drive car was designed by Antonia Fessia and differed from its predecessors, which had all been rear wheel drive. The engine used also differed from the Flavia in being a narrow angle vee configuration, whilst the Flavia had used a horizontal configuration.
The Lancia Fulvia also saw the introduction of four wheel disc brakes, which is always a key feature in racing cars, allowing the driver to brake late into the corners. The handbrake was also designed to focus on the rear wheels of the car.
A number of engines were made available including a 1.1 litre, 1.2 litre, 1.3 litre and 1.6 litre. The 1.1 litre model produced just 58 bhp whilst the 1.2 litre version produced an impressive 80 bhp. The 1.3 litre engine was designed to deliver two different outputs, with the first version delivering 87 bhp and the second 92 bhp. The 1.6 litre engine gave a performance range from 115 bhp to 132 bhp and could be tuned accordingly.
In total, there were 23 different models of the Fulvia across a variety of engines. The Lancia Fulvia Berlina was the first model to be introduced in 1963. The four door saloon version came complete with a 1.1 litre which delivered a mere 58 bhp. The Berlina GTE was introduced in 1968 and featured to the new 1.3 litre which gave the driver 87 bhp at 6,000 rpm. This model also saw up rated brakes.
The coupe version of the car was first introduced in 1965 and looked stunning. The car was designed by Piero Castagnero and featured a more powerful 1.2 litre engine delivering 80 bhp at 6,000 rpm.
The Rallye 1.3 HF was a modified version of the HF Coupe and featured the new 1.3 litre, delivering a very impressive 101 bhp at 6,400 rpm. There were a total of six rally versions of the Flavia.
The final version to drive off the production line was the Sport 1600 which had a top speed of 118 mph, making it the fastest Flavia produced. The modified interior of the car saw the introduction of electric windows.
