. . . my old race car. . had a wonderful time during the mid 1980s though 2001. . fast, gorgeous, reliable, and VERY competitive with many wins at Watkins Glen, Lime Rock, the old Bryar circuit, Waterford Hills, Summit Point, Bridgehampton, and Pocono. Even ran it in Freeport (in the Bahamas) for the 'Speed Week' event in 1987 (I recall that one ended in a 2nd place finish).
An early round tube car with a well designed space frame chassis, later fitted with more attractive Series II rear bodywork, tallblock pre crossflow 1600 Cosworth modified Ford engine, steel crankshaft, heavy duty main caps, twin cam rods, Cosworth A6 camshaft, lightened flywheel, dry sump, steel rocker posts, twin 45 DCOE Webers, 2000E close ratio trans, scattershield, Salisbury LSD, hardened axle shafts with double bearing rear hubs, dual circuit brakes with balance bar, fuel cell, Minilite type alloy wheels, Avon race tires, adjustable ride height shocks/springs, racing radiator with twin thermostatically controlled fans, large racing thermostatically controlled oil cooler. . . . . . remarkably also fitted for road use as an incredible, fast, exotic road car.
For road: twin seats with racing belts, removable forward roll bar strut, removable windshield, working wiper, lights, new alternator, air horns, handbrake, speedo, and even a beautiful stitched leather covered dashboard.

Ginetta? A fabulous company producing innovative designs. . never quite achieved the international success of competitor Lotus but very competitive in every class entered in England and, to a certain extent, Europe. The G-4 being their first great car. . built for road but clearly designed for racing. Much like rival Lotus' Super Seven.
Started by the Walkett brothers in the mid 1950s, hit their heyday in the 1960s and 1970s, brothers retired, name still lives with different owners. . and still building a modern form of the G-4. As beautiful today as when first built in 1961.
With a weight of not much more than 1,100 pounds and with an engine of, maybe, 150+hp, my ol' red G-4 is a fantastic road car with phenomenal performance and, as a competitive historic racer, an incredibly exotic looking entry at modest price. Can be upgraded (depending on local organization's rules and the pocket book of a new owner) to a cross flow or twin cam. . and with 200hp, this car would be one very wild ride. A wonderful alternative to a Lotus Super 7. . same drive train, better suspension, probably better chassis, far superior aerodynamics, and an exotic look that is miles ahead of a Lotus' kit car background. Just as fast on a short track, a definite edge on longer tracks.
All reasons I ran this car through seventeen very happy seasons with no serious mechanical problem, never a scratch, and getting three and four race seasons between rather simple engine 'ring and bearing' rebuilds.
Not to mention afternoons of ever so slightly terrorizing my neighborhood with quick runs through country roads!
DON'T confuse this car with later model box section chassis Ginettas. . this is a fabulous early car with a lightweight tubular space frame similar in nature to other 'period' races of the 1950s and early 1960s. Light, fast, and beautiful.
