Steve, check with the guys that you regidter the car with. They'll probably have some sort of procedure. You'll probably have to do a title search or a stolen vehicle serch with the local constabuary. Also you may have to get your claim noterized. And if all checks out they just may give you a VIN #. Also,THe engine was matched to the car VIN so part of the VIN will be stamped on the engine pad.

I recently purchased a track-ready factory stock. Of course, it had no title. The VIN is 4X69K7E173(XXX). Does anyone know how I can find out what year model it is?

It may never have had a title. Many states like GA and AL (where my 69 is from) did not issue titles unitl the mid 70's. When I got the car I asked about this and this is how Ga tag office reponded: "For a vehicle as old as a 1976 all you need is a Bill of Sale and proof of insurance to get a tag.". Other states may vary.
