Brougham question

My question is what denotes a Brougham? For example, I read about a 2 door sedan and a 2 door Brougham. What is the difference? Thanks in advance, Richie.

they're basically one in the same Richie. the broughams (2 door sedan) used the roof of a 4 door sedan, doors & quarter panels like a club coupe, back window of a 4 door sedan, deck lid of a 4 door sedan. Some guy's even call them a 2 door 'coach'. wish I had the one I sold a few years ago, was a nice, solid '50 Super 6 brougham. Was off the road long before road salt started being used here in the north country in winter. Ya know how it goes sometimes, 'hind-sight' is usually best ! !

The broughams have that longer lower look and it has a great look to it. You see one every now and then on eBay and I for one love the look above the coupes. I would love to find a 52 (last year they made them) to build. They are the closest to a low rider custom than any of the Hudsons that came from the factory--no need to chop the top...

It does seem Hudson used the term expressly for cars with two doors and a rear seat (e.g., 1937-40 "convertible brougham" vs. "convertible coupe"). But the industry in general has not used the term consistently, attaching the brougham designation to just about anything they wanted to. As I recall, the term goes back "pre-automobile" to the carriage industry. Maybe it had an accepted standard meaning then.

I looked at a 50 Pacemaker 2 dr. Brougham yesterday in Billings , MT.
I didnt care for the looks of it with the short wheel base.Coupes look fine with the short nose but it makes the sedan bodys out of proportion in my view. the car is at Regges Rods and is for sale for around $800-$1000

Richie, my Pal, Rudy Bennett has a 51 Super 6 Brougham... he asked me to post the following picture of his car so you can see what a Stepdown Brougham looks like... BTW Rudy has owned that car for a very long time and it is a GEM....

Ken, I worked for a company for 38 years that had many plants around the country, one being in Dallas. I knew a person in the Dallas Plant named Bobby Cates, we worked together several times even though I worked in the Atlanta plant. We went to supervisors school together back in 1980. Are you and Bobby related? I hadn't been in touch with him in many years. Richie.
