Hudson Club Jacket
-
I know that a lot of car clubs do club jackets. From what I can tell, the national HET hasn't offered anything like this, although they've had an assortment of other attire. I'm curious if any of the local chapters have created a jacket for their group? I know there's a lot of wind breaker types among antique car club. Not quite my style, but to each their own.
Out of the car shows I go to each year, the ones I attend most often are the traditional hot rod shows. I've seen a lot of mechanic style jackets with the club name and an emblem embroidered on the back, similar to the ones gearheads wore in the '5o's. So, I decided to make one for myself using a black Dickies coat. I created a picture using photoshop and sent it to a patch company and this was the result. (The patch is 12" in diameter.)Take a Ride in a Hudson Jet! -
Sara - You've got a great design there. What do those patches cost? I'd be interested in one like it.

You are so onto something here. I wonder if we could produce generic Hudson jackets so all owners/all years could buy one.... Cool idea.Geoff.

Very cool Sarah, great idea! Would love to see other ideas also.
-
Maybe something like this ?

I agree with Geoff, have a std. jacket but buy & sew on a patch that fits your interests or car(s) & I think the Club Store sells some of them.

Charlie Nau has had jackets for the'55-'56-'57 group.

I can have more of these made at $20 each.
I started shopping around online, but most places required a minimum quantity order. I had this done through a local shop which required no minimum.Take a Ride in a Hudson Jet! -
The New England Chapter had a nice light warm up jacket with the New England Chapter logo on the back and a Hudson logo on the left front. Some people had their names embroidered on the right front.
Somehow I missed out on getting one - not long after NEC member, and former HET editor, Art Adams passed away I recieved a package from his wife, Anne. Inside was Art's jacket - she sent it to me because Art and "Aunt Hester" were always having fun with each other (verbal exchanges, people, verbal exchanges) over Aunties meet reports and articles. We had a lot of fun back in the 70's before we lost Art.
I'll bet the club store could sell a lot of jackets with the 2009 logo on them, as Ron suggested. I know I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

That's really sharp sarah!. Perhaps the cllub could do one with the Hornet Emblem that appears in the Hornets' Nest section of the WTN.

Great idea Sarah- We need to see more of this creativity in the club and more cars taken to the shows!

Nice Job Sarah. I'd be up for a "mechanic style" jacket as well.

A jacket (black) with the Hornet's Nest emblem on it has my vote!
-
Sarah,
Please email me with info on price of the patch- My neighbor has a business doing this stuff, and can either do a patch, or embroider directly onto a jacket. She can digitize any artwork, and has computerized embroidery machine. She did a custom one for my wife, directly onto a denim jacket, of wife on her favorite horse, and our farm name- it even looks like her (and the horse!). I can see her doing stuff "to order", with supplied artwork, in whatever volume was ordered. mmittge at compprime dot com.

Maybe its time for our national president to take the bull by the horns, and authorize a patch or jackets with emblems for the 100 year celebration either thru the club store or to local chapters. Sarah, I still have some patches both large and small for the NorthWest Chapter, if you attend our February meet I can bring some with me. If you want one sooner, let me know. The Studebaker club, which I am a member, has shirts, hats and jackets etc; thru their National Museum in South Bend. That is their version of the club store. Happy Hudson Holidays Lou Cote

Lou-
I plan on being at the meet. I've already put in a request at work to get that evening off. Please bring the patches. I wasn't aware these had been offered.
I was just telling my husband that I'd made reservations for Valentine's and then proceeded to tell him we'd have a room full of chaperones. He laughed when he realized it was the club meeting that night, because otherwise we never go out to dinner for Valentine's Day.Take a Ride in a Hudson Jet! -
My wife and I have both kicked around the idea of mech. jackets with the hornets nest emblem on it. I think the idea of of having a standard club jacket with "add-on" patches for special interests is a great idea.

I like this idea as well. Then each Chapter could develop a patch as a fund raiser. They would be great to trade and/or collect. I think this would be a great project for the Club Store. If we got a light weight jacket it could be used year around.Brownie -
Sarah, I talked to my neighbor the patch lady, and she said if you can get that size patch for the price quoted, its a steal. She did mention that it would be an easy matter to "customize" a patch like that with, say, your choice of color for the car, as it only involves putting a different bobbin of thread on the machine.

Can you get a large patch with the real Hornets on the twin- H, ( Like the Springs t-shirt ) for a jacket?

If you're talking about this picture, that's another great idea. This is something K-Gap should consider, since they own the rights and sell it as a t-shirt. This image as a patch would make a great racing team jacket.

You bet it would and if it was on a jacket or better yet, a mechanic's jacket, I'd be first in line to buy some.
-
We need a hornet racing team to wear them too hehe. I'd buy that.
-
I've already got a Hornet racing team jacket - a little worn, but still wearable.
These were sold at some national back, what, 25, 30 years ago. On the back is says "HUDSON", under that a pair of checkered flags with a Hudson logo in between; under that Herb Thomas's #92 side view; and under that "RACING TEAM". It's blue in color - the text, etc, is white.

Yes, Sarah that's it ! Would look great on a racing team jacket, or a jacket we can wear just to show off our Hornets! ( I would wear it to show off my Jet also as it has Twin -H) -

Hudson racing team - could you use a somewhat overweight, decrepit old dirt track driver/moonshine runner for a driver????????

Here are some photos submitted by Alex Burr. Both are lightweight, warm-up style jackets. The Hudson Racing Team jacket dates back to the '70's. Note that the car number is 92 - Herb Thomas's number, rather than the more well known #6 of Marshall Teague. The patches he sewed on himself - they are available from the club store, for the most part, except for the AMC patch, which he got off ebay a while back. The New England Chapter jacket is believed to date back to the '80's.HudsonRacingTeamBack2_123195359946449.JPG435 x 438 - 67KHudsonRacingTeamFront2_123193392946449.JPG301 x 416 - 48KNewEnglandChapterBack2_123193962046449.JPG457 x 435 - 54KNewEnglandChapterFront2_123195042846449.JPG486 x 466 - 64KTake a Ride in a Hudson Jet!
