Head count

There were 146 cars registered (including preregistrations that didn't make it to the meet), but the last number of actual cars that I had was 116, but I think that there were a few more than that. We had 424 people at the banquet and not everyone attended that banquet. We estimate approximately 550 people in actual attendance. These are rough numbers, but also fairly accurate.

I think Indianapolis was the best National year for cars ever with 500 in attendance. Hope we can best that at next years National...as significant as it is.

I think high gas prices were one big reason for the low turnout of cars, in that a lot of people opted not to come at all. For example, there were only two of us from the Mid-South Chapter, that I know of - I was the only one to stick my hand up at the business meet quorum call.
I drove my Brand-X about 2700 miles round trip from Memphis - getting about 26 mpg still cost me between $250 and $300 for gas alone. I found prices had, however, stabilized around $4 a gallon. The highest I paid, going up was in Pennsylvania ($4.15) and Massachusetts ($4.23 on I-90 - I didn't buy gas on I-90, I went to a local station). The service areas in New York on I-87 between I-84 and I-90 were charging well over $4.25 - up around $4.50 - but they've always sold nearly 50 cents a gallon higher than anybody. Coming back I found $3.89 in Carlisle, PA, and $3.78 in Frankfort, KY. These are all mid-range prices, by the way. Regular was correspondingly lower.

The car count was down, but that's no fault of the hard-working folks who put on a bang-up show. Actually, this year's "Doc's Meet" was down in "Hudsons" from last years as well (again, no reflection on those of us who helped with the show...folks are just shell shocked about the uncertain economy and gas prices!).
My impression is that car attendance is down in a lot of car shows, ESPECIALLY for the larger national and regional meets where folks usually drive a longer distance. Local shows may not feel the crunch as much, since the people who drive to those are simply going shorter distances and spending less for gas. -

Jon, Would you happen to know how this national meet compared to the Auburn , Indiana meet in both Hudsons and attendance? -
I really thought the meet in Auburn was one of the best in the last few years. I just thought it was a perfect place for a national meet, not to big a city , lots of musems etc, easy to find your way around well orginized, lots of cars swapmeet was alittle scattered but you cannot have everything i hope they host again in the future and this is not meant to take anything away from other nationals meets but when they are on either coasts i stay home its just the way it is. If your not retired you have to spread yourself thin to make them. I would like to make them all someday.
