It can and still is done. It depends on the car and year. You have to think of all the things that make up a standard shift vehicle and transplant them into your's. This can be a difficult task when you take into consideration the way all the clutch linkage is fitted to any specific vehicle. You will also have to think about how the pedal fits in, so all of that will have to be changed.
The easiest way I think is to find a doner car and use all the parts. Now, you have to think of the things that need to be replaced and the availability of these parts.
Difficult or easy is relative to the skills of the person doing the install.
I'm sure that others that are more familiar to Chrysler products will be able to fill you in better then I, but, it's not a task for the faint of heart.

What car do you have???"The time has come", the Walrus said, "to speak of many things. Of shoes and ships and sealing wax, of cabbages and kings. And why the sea is boiling hot,
And whether pigs have wings..." -
if its a mopar auto the hub of the crank wont be drilled out to accept the pilot shaft of the manual trans
there is a very small chance the crank is already drilled----but get a pilot shaft bushing to see if it goes in
dont know if your engine needs a rebuild but the machinist can make it right----bob
