my tranny doesnt seem to want to shift into second or it is in second and just not catching. im assuming it is the clutch plates, just wondering if the tranny is shot or if it worth rebuilding? it is out of a 1971 dodge dart, i recently rebuilt the engine and installed a new 8 1/4 rearend with a higher ratio, the tranny has about 65000 miles on it.

if the tranny is done, where can i get a new 727? any other tranny option? i would love to switch to a 4 speed and i recently obtained the linkage from a 68 valiant parts car i acquired, what kind of work is involved to change to a standard? where can i get a 4 speed? new drive shaft required to change to standard? im a newbie so i have lots of questions, sorry guys.

I have one in the bed of my truck, was in my grandfathers shop for the past couple years. he rebuilt it for his 71 van (318ci) and before he installed it the van was hit and totalled. so it is completly rebuild and in need of a home. it has been full of tranny fluid the entire time but the seals may need to be replaced if they have hardened. my grandfather also worked for chrysler for 35+ years as a mechanic so it was done right. Let me know if your interested.

a change to a 4 speed is a big job because automatic cranks are not drilled out to accept the pilot bearing and pilot shaft
you have to disassemble the engine and send the crank to a machine shop to be drilled---than you might as well rebuild the engine
a 727 rebuild kit goes for about $120 and a rebuilt torque converter for around $100
you may find a discount builder in you area that sells the plain 727 for $350-500(exchange) + the converter price----there is a torque converter shop in my town and i get chevy ones for $45 and mopar for$65 (exchange)
