water in oil V6
-
88 Ranger V6 with water in oil. Does it have water up in the throttle body area that can get in the oil from seals leaking ? It does not appear to have a blown head gasket . I know this can happen on GM cars and can be fixed with some silicone sealer and wonder if it is simularly made. Thanks, Bud

The small G.M. V-6 has a water manifold at the front of the heads, on top, made of aluminum that corrodes away that's what causes the problems with them, not sure what the Ford engine uses but it's a place to start.

Is it a lot of water in the oil? Or is it a milky dipstick, or oil cap? If you drain the oil, is there noticable water in it? Just trying to get a feel for what your dealing with. The ford intake manifold is wet, meaning there is a passage in the manifold for the water to go between the heads. If the intake was leaking water into the oil by way of the block valley where thee lifters sit, I would bet that you would see a leak up top where you can know for sure. If there is no coolant puddling on your intake manifold, I really don't think that is your problem. A cracked head or blown head gasket is about your only other possibility that I can think of. Now if it is just a milky dipstick, or oil fill cap, it is just condensation that is caused by cold weather and short trips. Hope that helps....

Big time water in oil, Does not appear to be a blown head gasket, was not gotten hot so doubt a cracked head., was doin fine, then dang, dumped the water. Had this happen to 2 GM cars and was up in the injection intake area. Gonna check the intake manifold, sounds like a good bet. Thanks. Bud

I do beleive some 2.9's did have problem with cracked heads though. You can blow a head gasket around the water passages and not loose compresion. A cracked block is also a possibility, especially if it got too cold out and the anti freeze wasn't up to par. You have me curious now...
