Yeah! I'm excited to finally be seeing red! Here's a couple pictures I took of the paint going on the car. It's Chrysler Viper Red.

    im green with envy! awsome:D

so sarah what do you think it needs next?
is there still alot to do?

i have two 1954 jetliners, one was my grandfathers and the other one
someone on this form found it on creggslist and i bought. right now
i am bulding a huge wooden frame arround jetliner #1 so i can sandblast.
its so "fun" figureing all this stuff out and it sure takes time. i would like to do as much of the work as possable so i can save some money.

if i ever get mine done and i hope i will, i will paint mine the original black with creme colored top, and i have a visor that will look good on it, Its also going to be creme. the parts car has all the good stuf like
twin h with the aluminum head, a hudson spotlight and the spare tire in the back, fender skirts, window gutters, headlight lids, swamp cooler or
"BOOSTER JET":o, automatic clock, whitewalls, red wheels, vacume glass jar window squirter, fuzzy dice, hudson logo flared out exhaust chrome tip, coon tail for the antenna and i would like a hudson stoplight glass
    for the dash:rolleyes:

    what do you think?

i am very excited for you

    rock on:D

I've always felt that if you're going to paint something "Hello Officer Red", it oughta be bright enough to reach right out and shake that jelly donut out of his hand. Looks great, Sarah!:D

I hired out the body work and paint, but will be doing the interior myself. (I've already got the seats done, just need to wait on the rest of the car.) It's a chunck of change just to go with the color red, which is going on as an acrylic enamel. The car's going to sit like this a week or two while the fenders go into final prime, then things will start going back together before the exterior is painted. I've got the skirts to put on, but the accessories I'd like to have such as a visor, headlight lids, and window ventpanes will have to be added later.

I'm looking to replace the door windows and small side windows, if not even the front and back glass. The door windows have really delaminated.

54hudson, the cool tail for the antenna will be the icing on the cake. Sounds like you've got the right idea for the essence of the era all wrapped up. It's a sight I'll have to see!

Great!!!! Resale Red, you cannot loose! My last three paint jobs were viper red. My 39 convertible was originally red---Think resale red will work since it is a custom from the mid/late 50's?

Great job on the seats! I need to have mine redone as they are green and white. The door panels look difficult to redo, with the armrests cast on. Did you get your seat material from SMS? I think they redo door panels also but Im worried about the price!

Wow, that is a beautiful color, and your seat is fantastic. I guess I need to break out my sewing machines and redo my interior, right now it's some ugly crushed velour someone thought belonged in a Hudson, that and the cut the door panels to small and covered them anyway. Of course as always, I need to get the car running right first.

I got the vinyl through Keyson Brothers out of Seattle. They have several locations, but only do wholesale, so you may need to show a business license to buy from them.

When I bought my car, what was left of the door panels were sitting in the trunk with only one armrest left. Needless to say, I'll be starting from scratch. Lauan is a cheap, lightweight backer for door panels these days. As for the handles, I'll be carving new ones out of surf board foam.

Wonderful , wonderful, looking foward to seeing the panted car in the sunllight. It will be interesting to see the Viper Red reflect on the style lines of the Jet. The seats are so cool, can't wait to see the door panels

Sarah, my buddy just put a $8000 paint job on his Nova and last Saturday was walking past it in his garage and his clip on a Spyderco knife in his pocket put a 8" gouge in it. He was pretty heart broke. He is going to leave it though until all the upholstery and other work is done then do any repainting that needs to be done.He figures this way no new scratches will show up but if things are perfect someone else will add a scratch.

Your car is looking great though.

All that's left is the quarter panels and rockers! An order from K-Gap for weatherstripping, etcetra should be coming in any day.

Do you have a red center for your steering wheel?

No, I don't. This is the only center I've got. (My parts car didn't even have a steering wheel, one from not-sure-what was thrown on just to maneuver it.) I'm trying to decide what to do with the steering wheel now that it doesn't match the color scheme. Can it be painted? Should it be painted? I'm also wanting to pick up a suicide knob for it that I found online.

I have been trying to gather up red centers from when I did the Italia and now the Jet Convert. I have one that isnt perfect but looks pretty good that I would be happy to give you since you have made such great progress on the car. And yes, you can paint the wheel. I beleive it was painted originally if you check. That is one distinction on the Jet Prototype convert, the wheel is cast out of plastic like other 54's, and not painted like the standard Jet. I am slow to get things mailed but leave me a PM with your address and I will get it out to you if you like. Ed

And I have that very suicide knob (the Hudson one on the right, not the Jet), from that very company, that I would like to give you as well. PM me with your address (not sure if this board has my correct address- its mmittge at compprime dot com). I could also bring it to a NW chapter meeting, but not sure when I'll get to the next one.

Sarah, The jet looks even better, the more you put, like the grill moulding and bumpers it will look even better! But word of advice, have the front and rear windsheild put in by pros, they can be a real B!#*$! Especially the rear window.

Good Luck! and keep up the good work!!

It's starting to come together! The doors are going back on complete with rechromed handles and push buttons. I'm thinking about putting in an order for a new windshield through Lo-Can. Do you know if they offer the rear glass as well? Or perhaps another supplier?

That is a beautiful shade of red.

A few years back I was coming north on I-55 from Winona, MS, back to Memphis and spotted a whole passel (bushel, covey group ???) of 1950's cars headed south-bound. The contrast between the colors on the 50's cars and todays was astounding - today's colors looked so blah and dull beside the 1950's colors.

Your red shows that to perfection.

The window frames are not on the doors! Do they bolt on? Never seen a door without its window frame- unless you "hardtopped" it. . .

Great pictures to look at and thanks for sharing. I enjoy most stages of a restoration (except the nagging from "her indoors" which is a constant) but reassembly after painting is the most enjoyable stage. Have fun! Am about to rip into a '46 resto. One of the disassembled parts cars I bought has a better body than the "restorer" so a transplant of all the innards is about to take place I think.

I like the retina-burning red on that little Jet, Sarah! the interior looks to be a perfect compliment to that, too!

Do you work for a fire department? That would look cool as a fire chief's car, with some magnetic "Fire Dept" signs on the doors and a mag-mount cherry light for the roof!

It's a one stage Acrylic Enamel off the 2oo4 ChryslerDaimler Color Chips. The Viper Bright White is on the same page. It's been rubbed out a little for smoothness, but that's it.

Click here for a Tech Sheet on this paint. That will answer prep and application questions you may have.

I've had a couple requests to update this thread with some final pictures of the Jet. Need to send the rear bumper out for recroming one of these days and will need to replace the windshield sooner than later. It's been running well with a few exceptions we've been able to resolve.
