external-internal balance dilemma
    i am building a 1969 dodge coronet 500 and have built a 383 w/727 trans and 8 3/4 rear with 3.55 posi gears.

the motor is a 1967 383.... this is internally balanced, correct?

i put a 1978 non-lockup 727 trans with a 1974 torque converter that appears to be externally balanced b/c of the weights welded on (two of them) around the rim.

will running this set up cause any problems (with balancing or other issues)? and if so, can i just grind the weights off to make a quick fix?

Yes, it will definiitely cause vibration problems, and yes, you can grind the weights off of the converter and use it.

All 383 engines are internally balanced.

i'll try and grind the weights off with a cutoff wheel while it is in the car...........

-it beats taking the trans out now that everything is in place.

dont grind off those two tiny weights---they belong there----if it has a large weight the size of a book of matches--then knock that one off---bob

two tiny weights? you mean on the side of the converter.

im talkin about the weights on the face where the drain plug is- the part you see when you look at it under the car when installed(the face that bolts to the flexplate)
