Hi i need info on the power brake booster of my 56 Merc. the brakes locked recently and by only removing the vacuum hose to the booster would the brakes release. The unit is original to the car and is located in New zealand. i would prefer to have the unit overhauled or replace with simliarlike nos .

I DO NOT HAVE BOOKS OR MICRO FISCHE FOR MERCURY GOING BACK THAT FAR TO SEE IF IT IS THE SAME AS FORD CAR. TRY USA PARTS SUPPLY LTD. AND SEE IF THEY KNOW IF THEIR FORD ONE WILL FIT. 1-703-335-1935 OR www.usapartssupply.com. THEY CARRY PARTS FOR 1949-1972 FORD FULL SIZE CARS.

I think that is a Bendix treadlevac system. Try doing a Google search on that. GM as well as Hudson used a similar (if not the same) booster.
Good luck, Dave
